Meet the Animals
For nearly 150 years, this historic farm has been home to more than just beautiful buildings. Today, our sheep, barn cats, and chickens continue the property's agricultural legacy, bringing warmth, personality, and a little extra joy to life at Gibbs Smith.
The Sheep
Poppy, Zinnia, and Morning Glory are our three sheep! They receive lots of love from our employees at the Barn. Morning Glory is our three-legged gal who is about 8 years old. Poppy and Zinnia are around 4 years old. Every morning, our sheep head out to graze, spend the afternoon relaxing in the shade, and eagerly anticipate their afternoon treat!
Did you know? Our barn sheep were even the inspiration for their own Gibbs Smith merchandise—including "Reading is Shear Bliss," "Read Pasture Bedtime," and "What Are Ewe Reading?" totes and stickers featuring custom illustrations of the flock.
The Cats
Every good barn needs a few cats, and ours has seven! Meet Miss Kitty, Cola, Tag, Stewart, Oliver, Misty, and Mr. Bojangles. Many were once strays who wandered onto the property and decided to stay—and we couldn't be happier they did. Whether they're napping in sunny spots, greeting visitors, or making the occasional appearance in video calls, our feline friends have become an important part of life at Gibbs Smith. They even inspired the name of our children's imprint, 7 Cats Press, and a book called Morning at the Farm with Mr. Bojangles!
The Chickens
Our resident chickens, Copper Penny and Marcus Aurelius, are another beloved part of life at Gibbs Smith. Free to roam the historic grounds, they're a familiar sight to employees and visitors alike, adding a little whimsy to the workday.
